What is doggy day care?
Doggie Day Care is a short-term boarding service specifically for canines. At Shantel’s Wagging Tails owners drop off their pups for the day to play with other dogs in a fun, safe, well-supervised and clean environment. Doggie Daycare shares many similarities with daycare for children including:
- Socialization benefits
- Nap Time
- Snack Time
- Scheduled Activities
What is the Behavior Assessment?
Shantel’s Wagging Tails first priority has always been and always will be the safety of each of our guests. We have spent years working with experts in dog behavior to developed an effective assessment process. All of our kennel attendants go through extensive training in dog behavior, play yard safety and administering our customized behavior assessment.Each guest must pass our behavior assessment before joining us for daycare, during the assessment we will test the following skills:
- Hands-On; to evaluate dog’s response to physical touch
- One-on-One; to evaluate dog’s response to introduction with individual pups.
- One-on-Many; to evaluate dog’s response to introduction into group-play.
- Treats-Out; to evaluate dog’s response to the presence of food within daycare.
- Toys-Out; to evaluate dog’s response to the presence of food within daycare.
What should my dog wear to Daycare?
We require all of our guest to wear quick release collars with an ID tag including your name and phone number as well as their rabies tag. We suggest you also send your pup with a stander 6-foot leash.
What vaccinations are required?
Rabies, Bordetella and Distemper. We accept Bordetella vaccinations in the intranasal and injectable forms.
What age should my puppy start daycare?
We require that dogs be at least 12 weeks old and current on their vaccination schedule.
Do you turn away dogs based on their breed?
No! Shantel’s Wagging Tails welcomes all dogs assuming they have passed our behavior assessment.
Do you provide an outdoor play area?
Yes! We offer a large outdoor play area (5000sf).
Do dogs ever get hurt?
Although we do our best to minimize any injury to your dog, during normal play a dog may get small scratches, nicks, and lose small patches of fur. Although rare, it is possible for more serious injuries to occur.
