PUPPY CLASSES & MORE

You’ve got a new puppy or a challenging pup – well we’ve got the answers! Shantel’s Wagging Tails believes training should be force free and always positive reinforcement based. Our main goal is to aid you on your path to creating the pup you’ve always wanted, a well-mannered, polite, trusted and all around happy dog. Shantel’s Wagging Tails is results driven and strives to have a positive impact on you and your pups lives through proper education. Our group classes are designed to deliver the best possible results in the shortest amount of time to fit with your busy life style. Shantel’s Wagging Tails takes pride in providing you with group classes that feature:

  • Small Class Sizes of 8 students or less
  • Private make up lesson available free of charge
  • Complete puppy education program totalling 12 weeks
  • Consistently running classes, with classes beginning every month

Training is about so much more than just having a dog that listens, it is about working together to develop a solid relationship with your pup based on trust, patience and respect. We at Shantel’s Wagging Tails look forward to helping you on your way!

Puppy Kindergarten

An essential class to encourage the proper development of your puppy. Learn how to handle the most pressing puppy training issues, including proper socialization, biting, house training, and chewing. During this class you will be introduced to the most vital obedience cues including sit, down, recall, settle and leave it.

Shantel’s Wagging Tails first priority is always the safety of you and your puppy therefore we have the following requirements to take part in puppy kindergarten: We require at least one adult per enrolled puppy, the whole family is welcome to attend but if children are six years or younger, a second adult must be present. The ideal age for puppies to begin class is 8 – 20 weeks. The following vaccinations are required: Rabies and DPPH(first set) as well as Bordetella.

Total cost is $100.00 for 5 sessions of approximately 45 minutes each. The first session will be an orientation class for owners only to review expectations and handouts as well as begin with some preliminary homework before beginning the hands on training classes. As this is a positive reinforcement based training we encourage owners to bring food treats with them to each classes.

Puppy Kindergarten classes are offered on a monthly basis depending on attendance needs.

Puppy Intermediate

This class is designed for puppies aged 20 weeks to 18 months who may or may not have taken a previous puppy class. The focus of this class is more attention to basic obedience skills as well as a continuation of social interaction with other dogs as well as people. We encourage all family members to attend any of our training classes but we do ask that at least one adult attend with each puppy and for children under 6 years we require a 2nd adult in attendance.

The following vaccinations are required : Rabies, DPPH and Bordetella.Total cost is 100.00 for 4 sessions of approximately 45 minutes each. Each class will be a hands on training class. As this is a positive reinforcement based training class we encourage owners to bring food treats to classes.

Puppy Intermediate classes are usually offered every 3 months depending on attendance needs.

Puppy Advanced

This class is designed for puppies over 20 weeks to 18 months who have attended the Puppy Kindergarten or Puppy Intermediate and wish to advance to more precise Obedience training. Puppy Advanced training will focus on precise obedience in position changes such as Sit, Down, Stand, Heel, Stay, Place as well as skills such as Distance Stays , Distance Recall. Leave It, Loose Leash Walking etc. Vaccination requirements for this class include Rabies, DPPH and Bordetella.

Total cost is $100.00 for 5 sessions of approximately 45 minutes each. The first session will be an orientation class for owners only to review expectations and handouts as well as begin with some preliminary homework before beginning the hands on training classes. As this is a positive reinforcement based training we encourage owners to bring food treats with them to each classes.

Puppy Advanced is offered every 3 months based on the need for attendees from previous classes and is offered by invitation provided at completion of Puppy Kindergarten or Puppy Intermediate.

Basic Obedience

This class is designed for adult dogs older than 18 mos who may or may not have taken previous obedience or Puppy training. The focus will be on Basic obedience commands such as Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, as well as Recall, Leave it, Leash Walking etc. The following vaccinations are required for Basic Obedience: Rabies, DPPH, Bordetella.

Total cost is 100.00 for 6 sessions of hands on training of approximately 60 minutes each. As with all of our classes owners are encouraged to bring food treats as our training method is positive reinforcement based.

Basic obedience will be offered approximately 3-4 times per year depending on attendance requirements.

Essential Manners

Essential Manners is designed for adolescent and adult dogs with common behavior issues that can be addressed such as jumping, counter surfing, barking, leash pulling, biting and mouthing, no response to the recall etc. Basic obedience skills are used to eliminate the unwanted behavior and replace it with a more satisfactory response. The following vaccinations are required to attend Essential Manners: Rabies, DPPH, Bordetella.

Total cost for Essential Manners is 100.00 for 4 sessions of approximately 60 minutes each. Owners are encouraged to bring food treats as all training at Shantel’s Wagging Tails is positive reinforcement based.

Essential Manners is usually offered every 3 months as it is a very popular choice for most owners interested in focusing on specific behaviour issues of concern to them.

Clicker 101

Clicker training is a well established positive reinforcement method which allows precise training for complicated behaviors in dogs as well as other animals. Use of a clicker allows the dog to identify the exact behavior being targeted and with correct timing can be an effective and rapid means to training. It is the most common method used in training for complicated training routines needed in Entertainment filming with dogs but can accelerate training for basic obedience when used correctly. Clicker training is an easy and inexpensive means of training requiring basic instruction and practice. Clicker 101 will review how and when to use the clicker, shaping, use of the food reward with the clicker and application to basic obedience commands. The following vaccinations are required to attend Clicker 101: Rabies, DPPH, Bordetella.

Total cost for Clicker 101 is 100.00 for 4 sessions of approximately 60 minutes each. Owners are encouraged to bring food treats to use for rewards.

Clicker 101 will be offered as attendance allows for 6-8 attendees.
